Janet Frame in Oamaru

Visit our permanent display dedicated to the life of one of New Zealand’s most famous writers, Janet Frame. Janet Frame spent much of her childhood in Oamaru. Her writing captures many local sites and personalities. The Museum display includes items with personal connections to Janet Frame. Janet Frame used the typewriter on display while writing her autobiography. Her three volume autobiography was later made in to the film “An Angel at My Table.”
Family items that Janet Frame wrote about in her autobiography are also on display.
