Danny McNamara: Shoemaker-Levy 9:30 Years

Danny McNamara was a prolific astronomer and astrophotographer who left behind an extensive portfolio of lunar and solar eclipses captured from his backyard in Ōamaru. In March 1993, the periodic comet Shoemaker-Levy 9 was discovered. McNamara photographed the impact sites of the comet, the second to do so in Aotearoa New Zealand.

Usual opening times: Tuesday to Friday 10:00am - 4:00pm. Weekends and public holidays including Waitangi Day and Matariki 1:30pm - 4:00pm. Closed Mondays (unless a public holiday).
