We are an art group called Waitaki Creative Wellbeing and we are made up of artists who are struggling with mental health and wellbeing or who feel isolated in the community. Our group runs free art classes in Ōamaru, Palmerston and Kurow teaching a variety of art and craft in a supportive environment. We have an intentional peer support worker offering connection and support drawing from lived experiences. We focus on empowerment and support with art as the common shared experience.
In this exhibition each artist was free to create and explore different mediums under the title ‘Connection’ and what it means to them. It could be interpreted in many different ways, socially, spiritually, geographically or even that we are all simply connected through attending this group. Each artist had three weeks to plan and create in the class time of 2.5 hours per session.
Most members of this group have never exhibited before.
