Explore the stories of the Pukeuri freezing works. Visit an engaging temporary exhibition developed collaboratively by the Alliance Pukeuri Plant and North Otago Museum. The Works – Celebrating 100 years of the Pukeuri Plant tells the story of Pukeuri freezing works from 1914 to the present day. In 1882 the Totara Estate shipped the first frozen meat to Britain. This exhibition explores North Otago’s important role in the meat export industry from the first shipment, through the construction of the original Pukeuri Plant in 1914 to its changing operations today.
An array of photographs, objects, product samples, advertising material, oral histories and interactives invites you to engage with this important part of our history. Come and share your memories of the Pukeuri Plant by writing them down and adding them to a wall of memories. You can also share your memories on the North Otago Museum’s Facebook page.
