About the Waitaki Archive
The Archive was created and launched in 1987 to recognise a need to protect the valuable documentary material and records of Waitaki District. The Archive has grown over the years and now collects important records about the community of Waitaki District. These records include photographs, records of local clubs and societies, records of local businesses and individuals, local school records and newspapers.

Family History and reference material The Archive has a wealth of information that can help you in finding your ancestors. The local Oamaru Branch of the NZ Genealogists has voluntarily created many indices which make searching our collections easier. These can be accessed in the Archive Reading room during opening hours. Waitaki District Archive is funded by Waitaki District Council.
